Principal Bass clarinet and second clarinet in the Opera House Zurich

Teacher in the University in Lugano

Filipa Nunes works as a principal bass clarinet and second clarinet in the opera house Zürich and teaches Bass Clarinet at the University in Lugano (Conservatorio della Svitzzera Italiana).

 

She is also a member of the quintet "Reeds in Motion", studied in the university in Basel with Francois Benda and has a post-graduation in historical instruments from the Scuola Cantorum in Basel.

She was a member of the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival and Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester.

From September 2020 until September 2021 she held a temporary position in the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHDK) as a clarinet professor for the class of the Professor Matthias Müller.

From 2022 to 2023 is she a student of the Master of International Relations in the University of Cumbria, United Kingdom.

Filipa Nunes was raised in Madeira Islands and starts playing the clarinet with José António Sousa, at the age of 11. In 2002 she is accepted at the “Escola das Artes Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode“, where she studied with Robert Bramley, where she finished the degree with distinction. She moves then to Lisbon to study at the "National Orchestral Academy" and while studying there she had the opportunity to make an ongoing training at the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, allowing her to play in the professional orchestra several times. During this period, she won the audition for second clarinet in the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, where she worked until she finished her Bachelor in Lisbon.

Filipa Nunes has won several prizes in music competitions: 3rd Prize in the „Marco Fiorindo International Competition“, Torino (Italy) 2010, Special Prize in „ORPHEUS Kammermusikwettbewerb", Luzern (Switzerland) 2012, Funchal City Hall Cultural Award (Portugal) 2013, among others.

As a soloist she played with orchestras in many corners of the world, for example Yerevan´s National Orchestra (Armenia), Orquestra clássica da Madeira (Portugal), Basel Madrigalisten (Switzerland), Orchestre du Jura (Switzerland), Orchestre des Lumieres (Switzerland), among others.
